Prague, 16 February 2012 – The Splněná přání (fulfilled wishes), which was organized by the Unipetrol Group for its employees, brought in almost CZK 62,000 for charity. The funds raised were donated to different organizations located in Most, Pardubice and Prague – in other words, to organizations located in regions in which Unipetrol operates facilities. In each area, the employees themselves made the choice of a single charity to which they wanted to direct their contributions from this Christmas fundraiser.
"The employees showed great solidarity and, along with the entire Unipetrol Group, they contributed to improving the quality of life in those regions in which they live and work – for this, they deserve all our thanks," the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Unipetrol, Piotr Chełmiński, remarked in commenting on the outcome of this Christmas fundraiser.
More than half of the total amount raised was contributed to the Service Center for those with disabilities in Most, which provides assistance and consulting to people with a wide range of handicaps. It serves both the elderly community and families with children. The cash donations will be used by the center to help cover general overhead.
Funds were also contributed to the Slunečnice Daycare Center, which provide daytime services to the mentally disabled and those with a range of handicaps, from 9 to 55 years of age. In addition to assistance with daily tasks, the daycare center offers learning, therapeutic and educational activities, which help those served to better integrate into society. With the funds from the Christmas fundraiser, the Slunečnice center anticipates being able to buy additional equipment for its café, where the mentally handicapped are able to find work.
The Guide Dog Training Center in Prague 5, which in addition to training dogs to assist the visually impaired also provides more general veterinary services, will use the donations from Unipetrol to help pay for the harnesses that accompany each dog.
Regional Social Responsibility Programs
The Unipetrol Group is highly aware of its social responsibility in those regions in which it operates and it feels a strong commitment to provide needed funding. During the past year, the Group made donations in excess of 3.5 million crowns toward educational, social and environmental projects in the Ústí Region.
