On October 1st, 2008, a project called “Looking for the Best Young Chemist” was launched. The project is organized by the Technical Chemical College (SPŠCH). The objective of the project is to attract young people to study chemistry subjects. The project was implemented with contributions from chemical companies that, like SPŠCH, realize a decreasing interest of pupils and students in chemistry. This decreasing interest results in an increasing lack of experts.
“I am very glad that chemical companies cooperate with us. We could not implement this project without their financial and moral assistance. It is great that companies that supported us last year have continued with their support. Other companies have joined them and, as a result, we can expand our project”, says Miroslava Katzerová, the SPŠCH principal.
Paramo, Inc., as one of the important employers in the region, also encourages support of chemical education in the district. For economic reasons, but also from the perspective of the future participation of young people in the labor market, we consider the process of popularizing chemistry to be very important and the project “Looking for the Best Young Chemist” to represent a suitable form of how to encourage an interest in chemical education among the youth. By seeking experts among the students of SPŠCH and the Faculty of Chemical Technology of the University of Pardubice, Paramo, Inc. secures perspective employees for the future. However, the efflux of students interested in this field endangers this trend. By supporting the above mentioned project and its partial aspects, we want to encourage young people to study the perspective subject of chemistry.
PARAMO, a.s., is an oil refiner operating in the sphere of the production of fuels, lubricants and bitumens. It has been a member of the UNIPETROL Group since 2000. In the first half of 2008 it employed 761 people.
